Lauri Markkanen Utah Jazz Basketball Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen will miss Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors as part of the team’s injury management plan for his lower back. The decision comes on the second night of a back-to-back set following Monday’s 125-110 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Markkanen logged 36 minutes in Monday’s game, contributing 19 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. However, the Jazz are opting to rest him and several other key players, including John Collins (illness) and Walker Kessler (shoulder), to manage their workload.

With multiple frontcourt players sidelined, opportunities will open up for reserves such as Drew Eubanks, Kyle Filipowski, Micah Potter, and Oscar Tshiebwe. Brice Sensabaugh and Filipowski are expected to see increased playing time in Markkanen’s absence.

“This is part of our planned injury maintenance for Lauri’s back,” a team spokesperson said. “We anticipate he will return within a game or two.”

The Jazz, currently navigating a challenging stretch of their schedule, are prioritizing player health as they aim to remain competitive in the Western Conference. Tuesday’s game against the Warriors will test their depth and resilience.
