Jedd Fisch to Become the Next Head Football Coach at Washington
Washington Huskies have secured Jedd Fisch as their new head football coach, according to sources. Although no official announcement has been made yet, it is expected to come later today. The decision came after a thorough second-round interview conducted by Washington’s athletic director, Troy Dannen.
Fisch was the standout candidate, being the lone individual selected for a second interview among the initial group of contenders. He was granted this opportunity following Kalen DeBoer‘s departure to Alabama. With the buyout set at $5.5 million, Washington managed to secure Fisch for significantly less than the $12 million they will receive from DeBoer’s exit.
Fisch’s experience played a vital role in his selection. He previously served as the offensive coordinator for Michigan and the head coach’s offensive coordinator at Minnesota for three consecutive seasons. Furthermore, his time as the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 under the renowned Pete Carroll showcased his ability to work with top talent.
At Arizona, Fisch’s most recent coaching position, he excelled. He guided the team to a remarkable 10-3 record, ending the season with an impressive seven-game winning streak. The Wildcats concluded their campaign with a resounding victory over the 12th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers in the Alamo Bowl.
Throughout the season, Fisch’s coaching prowess became evident as he nurtured the talents of emerging stars such as quarterback Keon Brooks and wide receiver Frank Darby, both of whom gained recognition as some of the best young talents in college football.
Fisch’s recruitment skills also impressed Washington officials, as he has a strong track record in acquiring top-tier talent. His knowledge of recruiting on the West Coast further solidified his appeal to the Huskies.
The official announcement of Fisch’s hiring is expected to come later today, once he notifies his previous team at Arizona of his departure. Afterward, Fisch will travel to Washington to hold a meeting with the Huskies at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET.
