Jeffersonville Vs Fishers Basketball State Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — In a thrilling overtime conclusion, Jeffersonville High School defeated Fishers 67-66 to capture the 2025 IHSAA Class 4A boys basketball state championship on Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This victory snapped Fishers’ impressive 43-game winning streak.

Fishers, ranked no. 1 in the state and coming into the game with a perfect 30-0 record, faced off against eighth-ranked Jeffersonville (24-5) in a highly anticipated matchup that marked the first time the schools met in an official capacity. The game showcased both teams’ talent and determination, culminating in a dramatic finish.

After a tightly contested first half, Jeffersonville pulled ahead in the second quarter, thanks to standout performances from senior Tre Singleton and Wright State commit Michael Cooper. Singleton scored 26 points, while Cooper added 15. The Red Devils outscored Fishers 22-13 in the second quarter, turning a slight deficit into a comfortable lead.

Despite facing adversity, Fishers fought back, leveraging a strong performance from guard Justin Kirby, who finished the game with 15 points. The Tigers narrowed the gap and managed to tie the game at 60-60 in the final seconds of regulation but were unable to secure a victory in the last possession, forcing overtime.

In overtime, Cooper contributed key free throws for Jeffersonville, tipping the scales in favor of the Red Devils. The game culminated in a clutch layup by Elijah Cheeks, marking the pivotal point in overtime that sealed Fishers’ fate.

“We came in with nothing to lose, and we were ready for this moment,” said Jeffersonville head coach Sherron Wilkerson. “These guys worked hard, and I wanted them to experience what we felt back in the day.”

The victory marked Jeffersonville’s first state championship appearance since 1995, ending a 30-year title drought since their last championship win in 1993.

Fishers, who came off a historic season where they claimed their first sectional and state titles in 2024, finished the season with a strong performance, rewriting program records along the way. However, their quest for a back-to-back championship was halted dramatically.

“It’s tough to end the season this way, but I’m proud of what these guys accomplished,” said Fishers head coach Garrett Winegar. “Winning 43 straight games is no small feat; they showed heart and determination.”

The game was the centerpiece of Saturday’s championship day at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where other schools also competed for titles across different classes. The atmosphere was electric, with fans from both Fishers and Jeffersonville turning out to show their support.

As the 2024-2025 high school basketball season draws to a close, the IHSAA continues to celebrate the achievements of young athletes across Indiana, promising even more excitement for the upcoming seasons.
