Australian runner Jessica Hull is making waves as she heads into the 1500m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hull had an impressive performance in the semifinals, finishing with a time of 3 minutes 55.40 seconds, which is her second-fastest run ever.

In the semifinal, Hull was right in the mix, comfortably running near the front and crossing the line just behind Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji. With her eyes set on the gold medal, she’s becoming a serious contender and hopes to become the first Australian since Herb Elliott in 1960 to take home the Olympic 1500m gold.

“I do believe I can win the gold,” said the 27-year-old Hull. She mentioned how fast the race was, noting that a time of 3:56 was necessary just to qualify for the final, revealing just how competitive this event is.

Her confidence is growing, and she feels privileged to be in discussions about potentially winning a medal. However, she’s fully aware that Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, a formidable athlete and the world record holder, won’t make it easy for her. “It’s going to be a mega-final on Saturday night,” she added.

Hull has really stepped up her game over the past year, having finished seventh in last year’s world championships. She’s previously admitted that she struggled to keep up with runners like Kipyegon when the pace quickened, but her recent achievements show she’s no longer facing that challenge.

Just last month, Hull clocked an incredible 3:50.83 at the Diamond League meet in Paris, placing her fifth on the all-time list for the women’s 1500m. She’s really on the rise, and it’s exciting to see.

This is Hull’s second Olympic appearance, having previously competed in Tokyo, where she finished 11th. With her preselection for the Australian Olympic team back in April, she’s ready to chase her gold medal dreams.

The final race is scheduled for Sunday, August 11th, at 4:15 AM AEST, and fans can’t wait to see how this all unfolds.
