New York Jets Linebacker Kyzir White

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets are actively exploring options in the free agent market to bolster their linebacker depth ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Despite the recent re-signing of 25-year-old Jamien Sherwood, the team acknowledges a pressing need for additional support at the position.

General Manager Darren Mougey has focused on younger talent, seemingly avoiding players over 30. One potential target is 29-year-old Kyzir White, who has played with the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Los Angeles Chargers during his five-season career. White’s experience could add crucial depth to the Jets’ linebacker group.

According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, “Even if the Jets only start two linebackers in their base defense, this group lacks depth. Whether it’s through the draft or in free agency … the Jets need additional bodies here.” The team is expected to finalize its roster plans while considering various avenues for improvement.

White, who has garnered impressive statistics including 615 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 23 pass deflections, and six interceptions, is anticipated to demand an annual salary of around $5.8 million, potentially leading to a two-year, $11.6 million contract. His contributions could significantly enhance the depth chart for the Jets.

While it’s possible that Mougey believes he has sufficient coverage at linebacker for now, with further additions to be made in the later rounds of the upcoming NFL draft, White’s track record ensures that he will attract interest from multiple teams.

As the Jets continue to evaluate their roster, the addition of a seasoned linebacker could prove vital to their defense strategy heading into the new season.
