Darren Mougey Jets General Manager Announcement

NEW YORK — The New York Jets have named Darren Mougey as their new general manager, the team confirmed Friday. Mougey, 39, joins the Jets after spending over a decade with the Denver Broncos, most recently as assistant general manager since 2022.

Mougey’s hiring comes just days after the Jets appointed Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. The two will now collaborate to steer the franchise forward following a tumultuous 2024 season that saw the departures of former GM Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

“Darren brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success,” a Jets spokesperson said in a statement. “We are confident in his ability to build a winning culture here in New York.”

Mougey’s rise through the NFL ranks began as a scouting intern with the Broncos in 2012. Over the years, he climbed the organizational ladder, holding various roles including director of player personnel and assistant general manager. He was part of Denver’s Super Bowl-winning team in 2015 and played a key role in navigating the team’s challenging salary cap situation this past season.

“I’m thrilled to join the Jets organization and work alongside Aaron Glenn,” Mougey said in a statement. “We share a vision for building a competitive team that Jets fans can be proud of.”

The Jets conducted an extensive search for their new GM, interviewing 15 candidates before narrowing their focus to Mougey, Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, and Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark. Mougey’s final interview took place Thursday, sealing his appointment.

Mougey, a former wide receiver at San Diego State, brings a unique perspective to the role. Standing at 6-foot-6, he is known for his commanding presence and strong communication skills. His ability to adapt and thrive under six different head coaches in Denver further underscores his resilience and leadership qualities.

The Jets’ new leadership duo of Mougey and Glenn now faces the challenge of revitalizing a franchise that has struggled to find consistent success in recent years. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the pair navigates the upcoming offseason and draft.
