Jillaroos’ Julia Robinson Sets New Try Record Against PNG Orchids
Jillaroos winger Julia Robinson made history with an impressive six-try performance in her team’s emphatic 84-0 victory against the PNG Orchids at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night. Robinson’s record-breaking performance surpassed the previous record for most tries scored in a Test match by a Jillaroo, which was five tries by Sam Bremner at the 2013 World Cup. This record was momentarily shared during the match as Jakiya Whitfeld, the team’s right winger, also scored five tries.
The match saw the Jillaroos dominate from the outset, with Robinson opening the scoreboard in the ninth minute. Her break through the line was supported effectively by Tamika Upton, who converted the opportunity to a 6-0 lead after Tarryn Aiken‘s successful conversion. The Jillaroos continued to build momentum throughout the match, delivering a flawless performance that left their opponents scoreless.
Despite a promising chance for the PNG Orchids, initiated by a clever grubber from their No.7 Delailah Ahose that forced a line dropout, they were unable to capitalize following a subsequent error by the halfback. This missed opportunity was indicative of the Orchids’ struggles throughout the match.
