Jimmy Garoppolo Signs One-Year Deal with Rams Amid Suspension, Position Change
Former NFL quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has secured a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams, as reported by NFL Network‘s Mike Garafolo and Peter Schrager. This move comes following Garoppolo’s recent suspension and a noteworthy shift in his role within the league.
Garoppolo, previously with the Raiders, endeavored to reestablish himself as a starting quarterback in the tumultuous 2023 season. After a short-lived stint as Las Vegas‘ starter, he was relieved of his duties and subsequently handed a suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
Having spent the most successful years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, including a Super Bowl appearance, Garoppolo now returns to the NFC West with the Rams. His tenure in San Francisco eventually concluded, leading him to seek a new chapter in his career.
Joining the Rams as a backup to star quarterback Matthew Stafford, Garoppolo’s experience and veteran presence will serve as valuable assets to the team. Los Angeles has shown a preference for seasoned backups in recent seasons, a pattern exemplified by their previous signings.
With over a decade in the NFL under his belt, Garoppolo brings a wealth of experience, having amassed impressive statistics and a winning record as a starting quarterback. His role with the Rams will be crucial, not only in supporting Stafford but also in potentially stepping up should the need arise.
