Joe Mixon’s Injury Status Remains Uncertain for Texans
HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans are facing growing concerns regarding Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon‘s status for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season. After suffering a complicated foot and ankle injury, Mixon has not participated in any games this year and is currently on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.
Sources indicate that Mixon’s injury is severe enough it may keep him sidelined for the entire season. He has not seen field time since the offseason and has been a significant absence for the Texans since training camp.
Texans general manager Nick Caserio mentioned on October 7 that the team would have more insight into Mixon’s situation in three to four weeks. However, a month has passed with no substantial updates.
“He’s making progress, so we won’t put a particular timetable on it,” Caserio said earlier this month. This leaves fans and analysts wondering whether Mixon will return before the season concludes.
Last season, Mixon was an integral part of the Texans’ offense, amassing 1,016 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns across 14 games. His absence has forced the team to rely on veteran Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks. While both players have performed adequately, neither has matched the production Mixon delivered.
The Texans’ rushing attack has struggled, ranking 25th in the league as they average just 107.6 yards per game. Their upcoming schedule features tough matchups, and Mixon’s impact on the field will certainly be missed.
With the current state of the team, speculation arises about Mixon’s future with Houston. If he remains unable to recover, the Texans might consider cutting him to save salary cap space for the 2026 season.
Amid the uncertainty, Texans fans remain hopeful for Mixon’s swift recovery, but the latest reports continue to suggest a lack of optimism surrounding his return this year.
