Joe Root Double Century Celebration

On a sunny Thursday at the Multan Cricket Stadium, English cricketer Joe Root achieved yet another milestone, scoring his sixth double century in Test cricket. His remarkable innings came during the England tour of Pakistan, where Root exhibited composure and patience, reaching the landmark on the fourth day of the opening Test against Pakistan.

Resuming play at 176, Root carefully crafted his innings and reached the double-century mark off 305 balls. With just 14 boundaries in his innings, Root demonstrated a strategic and patient approach to accumulating runs. This achievement puts him beyond cricketing icons such as Rahul Dravid, Alastair Cook, and Graeme Smith, who each have five double centuries in their Test careers.

As Root reached the milestone, he celebrated by removing his helmet, kissing the badge, and raising his bat to the crowd as a nod to the historic moment. By achieving six double centuries, Root joins an elite group alongside greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, Marvan Atapattu, Kane Williamson, Javed Miandad, and Younis Khan.

This double century is particularly significant for Root as it is the first double century by an England batsman in Pakistan since Ted Dexter‘s 205 in Karachi in 1962. Root now also stands as the first England player to score two double centuries against Pakistan, adding this innings to his previous scores against Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand, and Pakistan.

The list of most double-centuries for England is topped by Wally Hammond with seven, followed closely by Joe Root with six. Root’s career achievements continue to grow as he solidifies his reputation as one of England’s most successful Test batsmen.
