Joel Embiid And Paul George Injury Updates

The Philadelphia 76ers will begin their 2024-2025 season without two of their key players, Joel Embiid and Paul George, as both have been ruled out for the team’s season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

Joel Embiid, who did not participate in any of the team’s six preseason games, will miss not only the opener but also the games against the Toronto Raptors on Friday and the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. Despite his absence, Embiid is “responding well to his individualized plan” and will increase his return-to-play activities this week, including participating in scrimmages.

Embiid’s health has been a significant concern, particularly his knee issues. A meniscus injury limited him to just 39 games in the 2023-2024 season. He returned for the playoffs and also represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. However, the knee issue has resurfaced, prompting the team to take a cautious approach to manage his health throughout the season.

Paul George, who signed a four-year, $212 million max contract with the 76ers this summer, will also be absent from the season opener due to a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise he suffered on October 14 against the Atlanta Hawks. George will be reevaluated later this week.

The 76ers are adopting a cautious strategy to ensure both Embiid and George remain healthy throughout the season. This includes avoiding back-to-back games and managing their playing time carefully. The team has also made significant roster moves, including the signing of Tyrese Maxey to a five-year max contract and the re-signing of veterans Kelly Oubre Jr. and Kyle Lowry.
