Joey Bosa Fined for Roughing Baker Mayfield in Week 11 Matchup
Orchard Park, New York – The NFL has fined Buffalo Bills defensive end Joey Bosa $17,389 for a dangerous hit on Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield during their Week 11 matchup on Sunday, which ended with the Bills winning 44-32.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter while Mayfield was attempting to throw a pass to wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. Bosa jumped toward Mayfield at the moment he released the ball, making contact with Mayfield’s knee area. The officials flagged Bosa for roughing the passer, resulting in a crucial 15-yard penalty for the Buccaneers.
The NFL announced Bosa’s fine on Saturday as part of its ongoing effort to ensure player safety and game integrity. Fines imposed by the league go towards initiatives aimed at supporting athletes’ health and welfare, including youth football programs.
Bosa’s hit was regarded as particularly dangerous due to the rule protecting quarterbacks from contact to the knee area or below. This fine is not the first for Bosa; he was previously fined earlier in the season for fighting with the Carolina Panthers, and his total fines in the NFL now amount to $174,332.
Despite the penalty, Bosa had a strong performance in the game, recording one tackle and contributing significantly to the defensive efforts with two pressures, two hurries, and one run stop in 44 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
In addition to Bosa’s fine, Bills running back Ty Johnson was also penalized $10,777 for an obscene gesture during a post-touchdown celebration. This incident follows a trend of players being fined for similar celebrations in recent weeks.
As the season progresses, the NFL continues to take disciplinary action against players to uphold their standards and maintain player safety on the field.
