Joey Porter Jr. Notches First Career Sack Against Colts
PITTSBURGH — The Indianapolis Colts faced a tough defense during their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 2, 2025. It was a memorable moment for rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. when he recorded his first career sack in an unconventional manner.
During the Colts’ first possession of the second half, Porter Jr. tracked quarterback Daniel Jones, bumping him out of bounds to secure the milestone. This sack marked the Steelers’ second in a row, following Alex Highsmith‘s tackle of Jones on first down.
Joey Porter Jr.’s achievement holds special significance as his father, also named Joey Porter, played for the Steelers from 1999 to 2006 and was present at the game. The elder Porter, a key member of the team that won Super Bowl XL, recorded 60 of his 98 career sacks with the Steelers and ranks seventh on the franchise’s all-time list.
The younger Porter was selected by the Steelers with the 32nd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, he has become a starter in 32 games, showcasing his talent on the field.
As the game continued into the third quarter, the Steelers’ defense stepped up, forcing three turnovers. Rookie edge rusher Jack Sawyer celebrated his first career interception, aided by inside linebacker Payton Wilson, who previously had an interception in the same game. Star linebacker T.J. Watt also contributed with a strip sack earlier in the second quarter.
