St. John’s Aims for BIG EAST Title Against Seton Hall

QUEENS, N.Y. — The No. 7/7 St. John's men’s basketball team will host Seton Hall on Saturday, March 1, at Madison Square Garden, aiming to secure its first outright BIG EAST Regular Season title since 1985. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:15 p.m. ET and is part of Senior Day festivities.
St. John’s enters the matchup with a record of 25-4 overall and 16-2 in the conference after clinching a share of the title with a 76-70 victory over Butler on Wednesday. The feat marks the Red Storm’s first conference championship since the 1991-92 season.
“Winning the regular season title is a testament to our hard work and resilience this season,” said Head Coach Rick Pitino, who is seeking his 13th regular season title across five programs.
Seton Hall, struggling with a 7-21 overall record and 2-15 in the BIG EAST, has lost 12 of its last 13 games. The Pirates will look to reverse their fortunes after suffering three consecutive defeats, including back-to-back overtime losses earlier in the month.
“We need to play our game and compete fiercely,” stated Seton Hall forward Isaiah Coleman, who has averaged 17.5 points per game in BIG EAST play.
In recognition of Senior Day, St. John’s will honor its senior players during a pregame ceremony scheduled for 1:50 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will also receive long sleeve t-shirts as part of a ‘White Out’ promotion for the game.
St. John’s is currently undefeated at home this season with a perfect 17-0 record and is aiming to extend its historic home winning streak. The team has not achieved an undefeated home record since the 1931-32 season.
Fans can catch the national telecast of Saturday’s game on CBS, featuring announcers Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery, and Jon Rothstein. An audio broadcast will also be available through the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network.
Following the home finale against Seton Hall, St. John’s will close out the regular season on the road against No. 22/21 Marquette on March 4.
