St. John’s Battles Iowa State in Las Vegas Showdown
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – St. John’s men’s basketball team is set to play its first game outside New York City limits this season, facing off against No. 16/14 Iowa State on Monday at the Players Era Championship. The tipped-off at Michelob ULTRA Arena is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET and will broadcast live on truTV with Brian Anderson, Grant Hill, and Lauren Jbara covering the action.
St. John’s enters the game ranked 14th in the nation with a season record of 3-1. The team has posted an impressive average of 98.5 points per game, ranking eighth nationally. They have not scored fewer than 93 points in any of their games this season, breaking records in the program’s history.
In their latest game against Bucknell, the Red Storm dominated with a 97-49 victory, marking their largest win this season. Five players finished in double figures, with graduate student Hopkins and freshman Jackson leading the way, each scoring 20 points. Mitchell achieved a double-double, contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Iowa State (4-0) also heads into the game in strong form, boasting an average victory margin of 33.3 points. Senior guard Tamin Lipsey leads the Cyclones, averaging 19.0 points and 5.3 assists per game, and has earned recognition for his defensive skills in recent seasons.
This matchup marks the third meeting in history between St. John’s and Iowa State, with the last face-off resulting in a 71-60 victory for the Cyclones during the previous season. The first encounter took place in 1948, where St. John’s won 74-47 at Madison Square Garden.
After facing off against Iowa State, the Red Storm will challenge Baylor on Tuesday, with another 4:30 p.m. ET tip-off scheduled.
