John Collins Trade Rumors Swirl as NBA Deadline Looms
SALT LAKE CITY — As the NBA trade deadline approaches, Utah Jazz forward John Collins finds himself once again at the center of trade rumors. The 26-year-old power forward, who is averaging 18.1 points and 8.4 rebounds this season, has been linked to several teams, including the Sacramento Kings.
According to Kings beat reporter James Ham, Sacramento came close to acquiring Collins but ultimately decided against pulling the trigger. “I definitely didn’t hear that,” Collins said when asked about the near-trade. “Whatever Sacramento is doing there, that’s their prerogative, if it involves me or not. I’m kind of happy I just didn’t have that news in my phone.”
Collins, in his second season with the Jazz, has been a standout performer, shooting 44.6% from 3-point range and improving his playmaking abilities. His strong performance has made him an attractive target for teams looking to bolster their rosters before the February 8 trade deadline.
The Kings and Golden State Warriors have been heavily mentioned in trade talks, with other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and San Antonio Spurs also potentially in the mix. A trade to a higher-ranked team could offer Collins a better chance at playoff success, but he remains focused on his current role with the Jazz.
“This is not an easy thing mentally to think about whether it might be a better situation or worse situation,” Collins said. “It’s hard for me to think about that and focus. So I just try not to think about it. Just try to be the best pro I can.”
Despite the uncertainty, Collins admitted that the trade season can sometimes be exciting. “In a weird way, sometimes it’s fun,” he said. “Sometimes I feel like a kid.” However, he acknowledged the challenges of being in trade limbo, describing it as a “purgatory” that leaves him in a state of uncertainty.
Collins’ experience with trade rumors is nothing new. Over the past few years, his name has frequently surfaced in trade discussions. “It’s been a part of my career and something I’ve had to deal with,” he said. “So it just is what it is. And again, I will continue to be the best pro I can be while I’m here.”
As the deadline nears, Collins remains a key figure in the Jazz’s plans, whether they decide to keep him or explore trade opportunities. His performance this season has solidified his value, making him one of the most intriguing players to watch as the NBA’s trade landscape unfolds.
