LOS ANGELES, Calif. — John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are mourning the loss of their beloved three-legged French bulldog, Penny, who passed away in her sleep on Sunday, January 26, 2025. The couple shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, reflecting on the dog’s decade-long presence in their lives.

“Our beautiful little tripod queen, Penny, passed on peacefully in her sleep today,” Teigen wrote in a heartfelt post. “Born the same day John and I got married, 11 years ago, she was there for us for every baby, every loss, every joy. She loved nothing more than being loved, having her nub rubbed, and destroying any ball she could get her paw on, even til her last weeks.”

Penny, who was adopted from a South Carolina shelter during Legend’s “All of Me Tour,” held a special place in the family. The couple often shared photos of the photogenic pup, who was known for her sweet and goofy personality. Penny was frequently seen alongside Legend and Teigen, including during interviews and public appearances.

Legend also paid tribute to Penny in a February 2024 Instagram post, calling her their “oldest and most loving dog.” The couple has three other dogs: Petey, Pearl, and Pebbles. Fans of the family have expressed their condolences, with many sharing their own stories of loss and love for their pets.

Teigen’s message resonated deeply with dog lovers. “Never forget that while every pup is just a few chapters in your long life, for them you are their entire book, their entire lives,” she added in her caption.

The news comes as Legend prepares to return to NBC‘s “The Voice” for its 27th season, premiering on February 3, 2025. He will join returning coaches Michael Bublé, Adam Levine, and newcomer Kelsea Ballerini in what promises to be a star-studded season. Legend sat out Season 26 due to scheduling conflicts but is expected to bring his signature charm and expertise back to the competition.

Fans of the show and the couple are sending their support during this difficult time, celebrating Penny’s life and the joy she brought to the Legend-Teigen family.
