St. John's Ncaa Tournament Basketball Game Celebration

NEW YORK, NY — St. John’s University kicked off its NCAA Tournament journey with an emphatic 83-53 victory against Omaha on Thursday night. The win set a positive tone for the team, but one reporter detected a different vibe from junior forward Zuby Ejiofor, leading to an unexpected line of questioning during the postgame press conference.

Ejiofor, who tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots in the match, did not appear to share the same jubilant spirit typically seen after a significant win. A reporter noted this shift, stating, “Zuby, usually after a win, like when we’re talking to you, you seem very upbeat. You do not seem upbeat tonight.”

St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino chimed in with a quip, asking, “Are you a psychologist now?” The reporter responded humorously, saying, “Well, I mean, on the side” before continuing, “Is there a reason for that?”

Pitino playfully suggested Ejiofor could share personal woes, saying, “Tell him your girlfriend broke up.” To this, Ejiofor laughed and responded, “No girl issues. You’re always gonna see me with a smile on my face. Especially when we get a big-time win like this. It’s the road to a national championship. We got one down. We got five to go. I don’t know. You don’t see the smile on my face. But I’m pretty much happy for what we accomplished today. But we still got more work to be done.”

Despite the unexpected nature of the reporter’s question, Ejiofor’s genuine joy shone through, bringing laughter to the room. Pitino capped off the moment with another jest, asking, “Anybody have any Prozac out there to give to Zuby?” The lighthearted exchanges highlighted the close-knit atmosphere within the Red Storm locker room following their victory.
