Johnny Depp Returns to Directing with Film ‘Modi’
American actor Johnny Depp has made a comeback to the director’s chair with the independent film ‘Modi‘. This marks Depp’s first foray into directing since his 1997 film ‘The Brave’.
‘Modi’ stars Riccardo Scamarcio as Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, with Antonia Desplat also in a prominent role. The film is a major stepping stone in Depp’s return to the spotlight after his highly publicized trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
In a statement, Depp expressed his gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and producers for their dedication to the project. He also thanked Al Pacino, his co-star in the 1997 film ‘Donnie Brasco’, for encouraging him to direct ‘Modi’.
‘Modi’ was predominantly shot in Budapest and follows the life of Modigliani during a turbulent 48-hour period in war-torn Paris. The film explores his reputation as an artistic legend and the events that shape his career.
In addition to Scamarcio and Desplat, the cast includes Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Luisa Ranieri, and Sally Phillips. The film is produced by Depp’s European production company, IN.2, along with producer Barry Navidi.
Since winning his lawsuit against Heard, Depp has maintained a relatively low profile. He has been spotted performing with his band Hollywood Vampires and attending events like the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah.
