Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is advocating for Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia as a contender for the 2025 Heisman Trophy. During a podcast appearance alongside Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Manziel praised Pavia’s performance this season, stating, “If there’s five [Heisman Trophy] finalists, Diego Pavia absolutely deserves to be in New York.”

Pavia has led the Commodores to an impressive 8-2 record, ranking No. 13 nationally. He has completed 70% of his passes, amassing 2,440 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 613 yards and seven more scores. Over his last two games against Texas and Auburn, Pavia tallied nearly 900 yards of offense and eight touchdowns.

Manziel, who won the Heisman in 2012, noted the significance of Pavia’s contributions to the team and the recognition he deserves. “If you’re looking at one of the most outstanding players in football… he gets one of those spots,” Manziel added.

The Commodores’ chances of making the College Football Playoff remain slim but viable, depending heavily on upcoming performances against Kentucky and Tennessee. Despite a recent setback against Texas, where they lost 34-31, the team continues to push for postseason success.

Looking ahead, Pavia’s statistics place him favorably among national quarterback rankings. He is currently fourth in QB rating and tied for ninth in passing touchdowns across the country. The upcoming games will be crucial not just for the team’s playoff hopes but also for Pavia’s Heisman candidacy.
