Jokic’s Stellar Return Sparks Nuggets Past Bucks

DENVER, Colo. — The Denver Nuggets found their offensive rhythm as superstar Nikola Jokic returned from a five-game absence, leading the team to a 127-117 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP, showcased his skill with a dominant performance, recording a triple-double with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 64% from the floor. His return was crucial for the Nuggets, who have struggled without him, going 4-7 in games he’s missed this season.
“It was just smart,” Jokic said regarding his decision to sit out during his recovery. “I couldn’t really jump on my left leg. So it was really painful, and it was just better to feel good. I don’t want to be on the floor and feel nervous because I cannot play how I want to play.”
In a pivotal moment during the game, Jokic executed a spectacular play that left both the Bucks’ defense and fans in awe. After faking out forward Kyle Kuzma, he found Aaron Gordon for an easy slam, a testament to his exceptional passing ability. Nuggets’ head coach Michael Malone noted the importance of Jokic’s gameplay in getting the team to operate efficiently. “When we start getting that play, I know that our offense is firing on all cylinders,” Malone said postgame.
Despite recent adversity, the Nuggets managed to maintain competitiveness in Jokic’s absence. However, injuries have muddled the lineup throughout the season. Malone pointed out that the team has only played with their usual starting five in 21 out of 74 games this season, contributing to their inconsistency.
Jamal Murray and others have also dealt with injuries, leaving the Nuggets in a precarious position as the playoffs approach. Jokic’s return not only reinforces the team’s playoff aspirations but also signals a much-needed stability heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
The star center averaged 29.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.3 assists per game this season prior to his injury. He now looks to regain that form consistently as the Nuggets cement their playoff positioning, holding a narrow lead in the standings.
“They’ve been through a lot of battles, and they’ve won a lot of battles,” Malone said, referring to the core players. As the regular season winds down, the importance of rallying together as a productive unit cannot be overstated for the Nuggets.
With just eight games remaining in the regular season, the Nuggets will look to build on this victory and ensure that their key players, especially Jokic, stay healthy for the postseason.
