Jokic and Westbrook Make NBA History with Dual Triple-Doubles
DENVER (AP) — Denver Nuggets stars Nikola Jokić and Russell Westbrook made NBA history on Friday night, becoming the first pair of teammates to record a triple-double in the same game multiple times in a single season. Jokić finished with 35 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds, while Westbrook added 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Nuggets’ victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
“Wow. That’s pretty crazy. We’re watching history, folks,” said Denver coach Michael Malone. The duo previously achieved the feat on Dec. 30 against the Utah Jazz, where Jokić posted 36 points, 22 rebounds, and 11 assists, and Westbrook contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Jokić, who missed the previous two games due to illness, returned to dominate the court, securing his NBA-leading 15th triple-double of the season. Westbrook, who signed with the Nuggets last summer, recorded his 202nd career triple-double, the most in NBA history. “Being able to do that allows me to make guys around me better,” Westbrook said. “We’re just getting started on figuring it out.”
Jokić’s performance this season has been nothing short of spectacular. He is averaging 31.2 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game, shooting 55.4% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc. Over his last 10 games, he has averaged 32.1 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 9.9 assists, solidifying his case for a fourth MVP award.
The Nuggets’ dynamic duo has been a force to reckon with, and their historic performances continue to captivate fans and analysts alike. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Jokić and Westbrook as they aim to lead Denver to championship glory.
