Jon Jones Adlan Amagov Sparring Session

LAS VEGAS, NV — Former UFC light heavyweight and current heavyweight champion Jon Jones has long been heralded as the Greatest of All Time, but a surprising revelation from former champion Carlos Condit sheds light on a less known aspect of his training. According to Condit, in a sparring session, Jones was dropped by Adlan Amagov with a spinning back kick.

Condit, a seasoned fighter who competed in the UFC from 2009 to 2021, made the claims during an appearance on the Jaxxon Podcast. He noted that while he often trained alongside Jones, it was Amagov who managed to disrupt the champion’s dominance during a Tuesday morning training session.

“Oh yeah, we trained together; I trained a little bit with Rashad, [but] I did train with Jon quite a bit,” Condit described. “Jon’s a great training partner… But then once he started sitting down on his punches and finding his power, I stopped doing all that.”

Condit recounted the incident involving Amagov, a fighter with a record sporadically featuring his engagement in UFC matches. “I have, yeah,” he stated when asked if he had ever seen anyone fare better against Jones. “Well, the same guy f—– me up the round right before too… One morning, I think it was like a Tuesday morning like 9 AM sparring, you know we’re in there tipping and tapping and got this dude – I don’t know if you guys ever heard of Adlan Amagov.”

Amagov, a Chechen fighter, competed in the UFC twice, experiencing both a victory and a loss. Condit illustrated the impact of Amagov’s striking: “He was a spinning back kick guy and he f—– me up and then I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick and he dropped him.” The unexpected twist left Condit incredulous. “Nah [he didn’t get kicked out], he stayed around,” he laughed as he recounted the story.

Despite sparring differences, the stakes of a real fight in the UFC octagon are considerably heightened. UFC CEO Dana White recently reiterated his commitment to securing a fight between Jones and British heavyweight Tom Aspinall, underlining that such a match would be a monumental event in MMA.

“There’s no situation, it’s the biggest fight that we can make,” White stated regarding the potential super-fight. “I know the fans like to mess with Jon or whatever, Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody, and Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now, that’s our job.”

White maintained that if the bout with Aspinall doesn’t come to fruition soon, the UFC would pivot towards other matchups. “100 percent – if we don’t get the fight done, we move on and we make another fight,” he said, recognizing the urgency of negotiations.

In a later interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, White teased the possibility of the Jones-Aspinall fight. He emphasized Aspinall’s desire to challenge the best fighters in the world, asserting, “Tom Aspinall is not that guy. Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world, and I love that.”

As Jones’s potential challengers intensify their pursuits, the perspective from martial artists like Condit and the strategic outlook from figures like White will shape the upcoming landscape of heavyweight MMA competition.
