Jon Rahm Masters 2025

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, returns to Augusta National this week aiming for his second Green Jacket, despite a tumultuous year following his move to LIV Golf. Rahm, once the world No. 1, is looking to reclaim his status after a modest performance last season that included a T-45 finish at the Masters and a missed cut at the PGA Championship.

Entering the 2025 tournament ranked No. 80, Rahm expressed doubts about his standing in the game. “I mean, I’m not going to say exactly a number, but I would still undoubtedly consider myself a top-10 player in the world,” he stated, reflecting on his past performances and the challenges of competing on LIV events, which do not earn world ranking points.

Data Golf, however, ranks him at No. 4, suggesting he has the potential to surprise the field once again. CBS analyst Colt Knost, who recently played with Rahm, noted, “It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was wearing a Green Jacket again on Sunday.”

Rahm’s confidence is fueled by a strong showing in recent competitions, including a runner-up finish at the Spanish Open and a T-5 performance at the Olympics in Paris last year. He remarked on his early-season form with optimism, “Feeling really, really good about this year in general.”

Meanwhile, at the Masters, Rahm is adjusting to a new work-life balance as a parent of three and appears more at ease heading into the competition compared to last year, when he was the defending champion and facing scrutiny over his decision to join LIV Golf.

“This is a course that has always fit my eye,” said Rahm, who is making his ninth appearance at the Masters. “Out of those nine, seven I came early to practice, this being the second time that I haven’t come early, and the other time was ’23, where I ended up winning.”

AUGUSTA, Ga. — In a notable return, Angel Cabrera, the 2009 Masters champion, is poised for his 21st start this week, having completed a remarkable journey following his release from prison in March 2023. Gone are the logos he once wore; Cabrera now brandishes his initials on his gear. The 55-year-old, who has battled personal demons, showcased his skills just last week by winning a PGA Tour Champions event.

Cabrera expressed nostalgia for the camaraderie of competitive golf, saying, “It was just a really good feeling to be back here.” He emphasized that despite the controversy surrounding his past, he respects differing opinions on his presence at the Masters. When asked if he felt he belonged, he answered resolutely, “I won the Masters, why not?”

This year, as Cabrera returns to Augusta National, he faces mixed reactions. Some critics feel his past actions should overshadow his golfing achievements. Cabrera commented on the divisive opinions but maintained a focus on his golf. “I respect their opinion, and everybody has their own opinion and I respect that.”

Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley is expected to address questions surrounding Cabrera’s entry into the tournament. When asked earlier about Cabrera’s situation, he noted the importance of the legal process, stating, “We certainly wish him the best of luck with that.” The backdrop of Cabrera’s comeback adds another layer of intrigue to this year’s Masters.

As the Masters gets underway, all eyes will be on Rahm and Cabrera, both players with compelling narratives preparing to leave their mark on this prestigious tournament.
