ROCESTER, England – Jon Rahm is making headlines at the LIV Golf UK event held at JCB Golf & Country Club, where he leads after the first round by two shots. The excitement is palpable as fans gather to watch the players compete on this picturesque course.

In team standings, Legion XIII is currently in the top spot thanks to a strong performance by Tyrrell Hatton, who shot a 66. Despite being a challenging day for many, other English players also made their mark, with Sam Horsfield and Paul Casey both recording solid rounds of 67.

The atmosphere was electric, with the sellout crowd providing vocal support for the six English-born players participating in the tournament. Hatton expressed his appreciation for the crowd, noting how it felt like being in a major tournament. “Playing in front of English fans, they were quite vocal out there today, which was nice,” he mentioned.

Horsfield, a local golfer who practices at JCB and lives nearby, played alongside renowned co-captains Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood in an all-English group. He commented, “The English crowds really brought the energy today.” Their cheering helped create a lively environment for all the players.

Rahm’s impressive round of 63 came despite not scoring any birdies on the course’s three par 5 holes. It’s an unusual trend for the skilled golfer, as he had a similar experience at last week’s Open Championship. “It’s funny,” Rahm said. “I don’t mean to be laughing. Recently, I feel like I’m not doing anything wrong.”

Meanwhile, Andy Ogletree of HyFlyers GC is overcoming some physical challenges. He is dealing with wrist issues that may require surgery, which led him to adjust his swing. His score of 65 places him tied for second in the tournament. “With the new swing, it’s taken a little time,” Ogletree stated. “But I feel like I’ve been trending in the right direction.”

In the statistics of the day, Graeme McDowell and Kevin Na boasted impressive driving accuracy, each hitting 92.86% of their fairways. Matthew Wolff showcased his power, averaging a distance of 320.2 yards with the longest drive of 327.7 yards.

Richard Bland had a remarkable day, hitting 88.89% of the greens in regulation. Notably, Jon Rahm and Kevin Na both finished their rounds without any bogeys, making for a compelling performance on the opening day of this exciting event.
