Jonathan Dos Santos’ Future with Club América in Doubt

México City, Mexico – The future of Jonathan Dos Santos with Club América hangs in the balance following the Clausura 2025 season. At 35 years old, Dos Santos remained one of the most reliable midfielders despite the team’s disappointing end to the tournament.
Dos Santos, the club’s second captain, showcased his leadership abilities throughout the season. However, physical concerns have raised questions about his continuity with the team. Although his commitment to Club América has never been in doubt, a disagreement with the club’s management could lead to his exit if not resolved quickly.
According to Fox Sports, contract renewal talks between Dos Santos and Club América have stalled. The main hurdle is the contract’s duration. The club is offering only one additional year, extending through June 2026, while Dos Santos seeks a two-year extension to retire in 2027 wearing the blue and cream jersey.
The situation is pressing, as his current contract expires this summer. If no agreement is reached, he could become a free agent in less than a month. Despite support from the coaching staff and teammates, the club is cautious about committing to a long-term deal due to Dos Santos’ recent injury history.
Further complicating matters, as reported by Roberto López Olvera in an interview with Águilas Monumental, both Javairô Dilrosun and Brian Rodríguez, along with Dos Santos, are among the potential departures as the team anticipates significant restructuring ahead of Apertura 2025. No position is guaranteed as the club prepares for the upcoming season.
