Jonathan Toews Embarks on Healing Journey in India After Health Issues
Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has been on a significant health journey, recently spending five weeks in India to address the immune system issues that have kept him out of the NHL for nearly two seasons. Toews, a three-time Stanley Cup champion, shared his experience on Instagram, describing it as ‘a bit of a healing journey.’ He has been dealing with health problems, including Chronic Immune Response Syndrome (CIRS), which caused him to miss the entire 2020-21 season, and the effects of long COVID-19, which kept him out from February 21 to April 1, 2023.
Toews, who played his entire NHL career with the Blackhawks after being selected third overall in the 2006 NHL Draft, has been seeking ways to heal his inflammatory and immune system issues for almost five years. His recent stay in India involved a detox program and an exploration of Ayurveda, which he credits with teaching him better diet choices and deepening his intuitive relationship with himself and the world around him.
The 36-year-old hockey player was not re-signed by the Blackhawks at the end of the 2022-23 season, marking the end of his eight-year contract signed on July 9, 2014. His last game with the Blackhawks was a 5-4 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on April 14, 2023. Despite his absence from the ice, Toews remains optimistic about his health, stating that ‘things are trending’ in a positive direction.
