Jordan Davis Inspires Kids with Thanksgiving Event at Salvation Army
Philadelphia, PA – Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis visited the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Thanksgiving Day, bringing food, football, and a sense of belonging to local children. During his visit, Davis connected with the kids, teaching them football skills and providing support. “White 80, set hut!” echoed through the gym as children chased after his spirals.
This event was part of a larger effort, as Davis helped distribute the first of 1,400 turkeys provided by the center. While sharing a Thanksgiving meal, Davis emphasized the importance of community. “Football and life have a lot of lessons that co-exist in each other,” he said. “If it weren’t for sports, I would know nothing about leadership.”
One child, 12-year-old Hector Rosario, shared his thoughts on the event, stating, “No matter your social status, you can help anyone at any time, even if you’re still in a tough place.” Veronica Ramirez, who attended with her son, noted that visits from prominent figures like Davis show humility and inspire those in the community.
Davis agreed, linking the importance of teamwork in both sports and community service. He remarked, “It takes everybody. It takes each person putting in time and effort to get where we want to go.” This lesson resonates in Philadelphia, where over 210,000 residents face food insecurity, according to reports.
In Camden County, New Jersey, the food insecurity rate is 12.7%, affecting over 66,000 individuals. Davis, who benefited from Salvation Army support during his childhood, now gives back, emphasizing that it’s a full-circle moment for him. “It’s an opportunity to use the skills that I learned over the years,” he said.
For the children, these events create a safe space to build memories and feel supported. Rosario expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s a way to take all your insecurities away and a place for me to have fun and forget about what’s happening outside.” In reflecting on competition, he shared, “It’s not what you win, it’s what you do for the Lord.” Davis’s visit serves as a reminder of the power of community support, especially during the holiday season.
