Jordan Phillips Set to Rejoin Buffalo Bills After Release from Dallas Cowboys
The Buffalo Bills are poised to re-sign veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, marking his third stint with the team. Phillips, 32, was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, November 5, following a brief and underwhelming tenure with the team. After playing in just two regular season games and logging only one tackle, Phillips was placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury, a move he disputed.
Phillips’ potential return to Buffalo was hinted at through a cryptic Instagram post where he shared a photo of himself in a Bills uniform with the caption “run it back.” This move suggests that Phillips is eager to return to a team where he has previously thrived. During his first stint with the Bills in 2018 and 2019, Phillips had a breakout season in 2019, recording 9.5 sacks and 31 tackles.
Phillips’ career has seen him play for several teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Giants, before his short-lived stint with the Cowboys. He originally signed with the Giants this spring but was traded to Dallas in August. Despite his limited role with the Cowboys, Phillips has consistently contributed on the defensive line throughout his 10-year NFL career, tallying 182 tackles, 24 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, and 52 quarterback hits.
The Buffalo Bills, currently holding a 7-2 record and aiming for a postseason run, are in need of depth on their defensive line. The team has been struggling against the run, allowing 4.8 yards per carry to opposing running backs, and has dealt with injuries to defensive tackles, including rookie DeWayne Carter who is set to miss at least three games with a wrist injury. Phillips’ familiarity with Sean McDermott‘s defense and his past performance with the Bills make him a valuable addition to the team.
If the signing is finalized, Phillips will bring significant experience and skills to Buffalo’s defensive line, potentially bolstering their chances for a deep playoff push. His return would be welcomed by both the team and fans, given his positive history and contributions during his previous stints with the Bills.
