Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, who was recently released by the Dallas Cowboys, appears to be on the verge of returning to the Buffalo Bills for his third stint with the team. Phillips, 32, was let go by the Cowboys on the day of the NFL trade deadline, following a brief and tumultuous period with the team. He had been placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury, a move he publicly disputed.

Shortly after his release, Phillips posted a cryptic message on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself in a Buffalo Bills uniform with the caption “run it back.” This post has sparked speculation that he is set to rejoin the Bills, a team where he has previously thrived. During his first stint in Buffalo, Phillips had a breakout season in 2019, recording 9.5 sacks, which was the best season of his career.

Phillips’ potential return to the Bills comes at a time when the team is dealing with injuries in the defensive line. Rookie DeWayne Carter is set to miss at least the next three games due to a wrist injury, making the addition of a veteran like Phillips particularly timely. Phillips has a proven track record in Sean McDermott‘s defense and is expected to bolster the team’s pass rush, an area where the Bills have been struggling this season.

Phillips’ journey in 2024 has been complex. He initially signed with the New York Giants in the spring but was traded to the Dallas Cowboys during training camp. His time with the Cowboys was short-lived, as he played only two games before being placed on injured reserve. His release from the Cowboys and subsequent social media post suggest a strong likelihood of his return to Buffalo.
