Jordan Spieth Golf Shot Muirfield Village

Dublin, Ohio — Jordan Spieth faced a challenging situation on the 11th hole of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He hit his opening shot of the par-5, 583-yard hole 309 yards, but it bounced near the water. To avoid a penalty, Spieth took off his shoes and ventured barefoot into the creek in search of his ball.

“I took the drop because I couldn’t get a stance,” Spieth explained. “The creek’s too deep, so I couldn’t actually stand in the water. Also, I could reach the green, which was a big reason why I took a drop.” Spieth assessed his situation quickly, stating he wanted to check if he could find solid footing in the water.

After determining it was too risky to play the shot, Spieth dropped and took a one-stroke penalty. His following shot landed in the rough, but he managed to hit his next shot to within four feet of the hole. “I got really lucky on the lie I had after the third shot,” he said. “The greens were a little softer, so all in all, it was a really good save.” After all that, Spieth managed to sink the putt for par. He finished the day at 3 under, tied for fifth after two rounds.

Meanwhile, Canadian Nick Taylor tied for the second-round lead with a score of 68. The unseasonably cool weather and rain did not affect Taylor’s performance. He shared, “This was every day of my golfing life since I was about 23.” Taylor played collegiate golf at the University of Washington and birdied several holes during his round.

Scottie Scheffler opened with a 2 under round but faltered with a double-bogey on 10. “If I holed a few more putts, I would have had a little bit of a different score,” he said, noting the difficult conditions of the course due to the weather. Scheffler finished at 4 under, three shots behind the co-leaders.

As the tournament progresses, fans are eager to see how the players will adapt to the challenging course conditions, with the leaderboard remaining competitive.
