Jose Johnson Ufc Fight Night 2025

Flyweight fighter Jose Johnson is set to kick off his 2025 campaign against Felipe Bunes at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs Ribas 2 this Saturday in Las Vegas. The event marks Johnson’s return to the Octagon following a challenging 2024, where he went 1-2, including a loss to Asu Almabayev in June.

Johnson, 29, has overcome numerous obstacles to reach the UFC, including multiple eye surgeries and over 100 amateur fights before turning pro. His journey included two appearances on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2020 and 2022, which ultimately earned him a spot in the UFC. Despite a rocky start, Johnson remains optimistic and views his setbacks as valuable learning experiences.

“Honestly, what keeps me sharp is being a coach,” Johnson said. “Holding pads for people and teaching different techniques has helped me break down the sport in ways I never did before. It’s made me more technical and adaptable.” Johnson, who coaches at a gym in Puyallup, Washington, believes his extensive amateur experience gives him an edge in the Octagon. “I’ve seen every type of fighter and situation. That experience keeps me confident and prepared,” he added.

His opponent, Felipe Bunes, brings a 13-7 record into the fight, but Johnson is undeterred. “I’m not preparing for him; I’m preparing to go through him,” Johnson said. “I’ve worked harder than ever for this fight. My family depends on me, and I’m ready to show what I can do.” Johnson aims to secure a first-round finish and hopes to fight again on the upcoming Seattle card, which is close to his home.

The fight will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, with prelims starting at 4pm ET and the main card at 7pm ET. Fans can expect a high-energy bout as Johnson looks to turn his UFC career around and make a statement in the flyweight division.
