Jose Mourinho’s Laptop Protest Highlights Fenerbahce Victory
Jose Mourinho, the seasoned Portuguese manager known for his time at elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea, found himself in the spotlight once again during Fenerbahce‘s recent Turkish Super Lig match against Antalyaspor on Sunday. The event unfolded at the Yeni Antalya Stadium where Fenerbahce secured a 2-0 victory, but it was Mourinho’s unique protest that captured widespread attention.
In the second half, as Fenerbahce led 1-0, a goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside, prompting Mourinho to express his dissent in a dramatic fashion. The manager placed a laptop in front of the beIN Sports television cameras to argue that his striker, Edin Dzeko, was actually onside, based on his analysis of the game footage. According to Mourinho, the footage showed Antalyaspor’s left back playing Dzeko onside.
Cihan Adyin, the match referee, issued a yellow card to Mourinho for his unconventional protest. Speaking to beIN Sports following the match, Mourinho justified his actions, claiming, “No offside. The left back was in a position where Dzeko was not offside, and in our perspective with the technical camera, that was clear for us.”
Mourinho’s stint with Fenerbahce began in the summer, and his team is currently positioned three points behind their rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish league standings. Earlier in the week, Fenerbahce triumphed over Belgian side Union SG in the Europa League with a 2-1 win, adding to their recent success.
Mourinho’s presence in the Turkish Super Lig continues to generate headlines, as his tactics and media engagements reflect his characteristic style and tactical awareness. Fans and supporters remain eager to see how his tenure will impact Fenerbahce’s campaign this season.
