Josh Allen Secures NFL Record $330 Million Contract Extension

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — NFL MVP Josh Allen has garnered a record-setting six-year, $330 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills, including a staggering $250 million guaranteed, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday. This extension solidifies Allen’s position among the highest-paid players in the league.
The Bills announced the agreement, while sources close to the deal confirmed the financial details to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the team did not publicly disclose the terms. This new contract extends Allen’s deal to the 2030 season.
Allen’s new contract surpasses the previous record for guaranteed money, held by Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson, whose deal in 2022 included $230 million guaranteed. Only Kansas City‘s Patrick Mahomes has a larger overall contract, with his 10-year deal valued at $450 million.
The 28-year-old quarterback’s elevated contract reflects his achievements after a season where he was named NFL MVP, becoming the Bills’ third player to earn the honor, following Thurman Thomas in 1991. Allen finished the season with 28 touchdown passes, 12 rushing touchdowns, and just six interceptions, marking his most efficient season yet.
“Josh Allen’s leadership, his consistent leadership, was the biggest reason why we did what we did this season,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “I’ve seen it, and him now doing that every season for us, not an easy undertaking.”
Allen’s 119.6 passer rating was the fourth-highest in NFL history, and he became the first player to throw for at least 25 touchdowns and rush for 10 touchdowns with fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season. He is also known for his dual-threat capability, evidenced by his 65 rushing touchdowns since entering the league in 2018.
This new agreement not only recognizes Allen’s outstanding performance but also alleviates some pressures on Buffalo’s salary cap, allowing the team to secure other key players, such as defensive end Greg Rousseau, linebacker Terrel Bernard, and receiver Khalil Shakir, who also received contract extensions lately.
“We’re going to continue to turn every stone over and do whatever we can to try to bring a Lombardi back here to Western New York,” Allen stated regarding the team’s Super Bowl ambitions. The Bills have advanced to the postseason every year since his arrival, winning five consecutive AFC East titles.
In a personal milestone, Allen recently proposed to actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, further highlighting the positive developments in his life alongside his professional achievements.
As the league’s new business year approaches, this contract places Allen as the second highest in average annual salary among NFL quarterbacks at $55 million, trailing only Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys.
