KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is set to return to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2025 NFL season, according to multiple reports on March 15, 2025.

The 28-year-old receiver re-signed with the Chiefs, where he previously played a key role in their 2022 Super Bowl championship. Last season, he appeared in 14 games for Kansas City, recording 18 receptions for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith-Schuster’s standout performance in 2024 came during a Week 5 matchup against his former team, where he caught seven passes for 130 yards on “Monday Night Football.” Despite interest from other teams, he ultimately chose to remain in Kansas City, valuing his connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After a challenging stint with the New England Patriots, which followed his Super Bowl victory, Smith-Schuster had been released during training camp last summer. He rejoined the Chiefs in 2024, looking to revive his career.

In his early years, Smith-Schuster played five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who drafted him in the second round in 2017. His best year came in 2018, recording 111 receptions for 1,426 yards. Over his NFL career, he has accumulated 448 catches for 5,279 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach expressed confidence in Smith-Schuster’s fit within the team, stating it’s beneficial to bring back a familiar face. The decision follows the recent re-signing of veteran running back, who had also returned after a previous stint with the team.

The Chiefs have faced departures this offseason, trading Joe Thuney and losing Justin Reid and Tershawn Wharton in free agency. However, they have also re-signed key players like Smith-Schuster and Hollywood Brown, who missed most of last season due to injury.

As Smith-Schuster steps into the 2025 season, he will complement a wide receiving corps that includes Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Brown, adding depth and experience to the team’s offensive strategy.
