Julius Randle Eyes Future with Timberwolves Amid Transition

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Julius Randle, traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves from the New York Knicks, expressed his desire to remain with the team as the NBA season approaches its conclusion. Since joining the Timberwolves, Randle has settled into his new environment, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
In an interview conducted April 7, Randle reflected on his family’s adjustment to life in Minnesota. “We love the neighborhood we live in. We love our house. My kids are loving Minnesota—and the cold, somewhat,” Randle said. “From a basketball standpoint, I love playing here. Coach Tim and the organization have been amazing.”
Randle’s arrival in Minnesota came after a tumultuous period for the franchise, which saw the departure of fan-favorite Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite initial skepticism surrounding the trade, Randle has thrived, averaging 18.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game since returning from a groin injury on March 2. The Timberwolves have posted a 14-3 record during that time.
With a 46-32 record, Minnesota is currently positioned seventh in the Western Conference, with playoff implications hanging in the balance as the regular season winds down. “It’s a critical time for us, and I’m just focused on helping the team win,” Randle stated.
Looking forward, Randle holds a $30.9 million player option for the 2025-26 season, which he may opt out of to pursue a longer contract. Timberwolves ownership, including Alex Rodriguez, has also expressed support for the team’s future direction.
<p“Randle has really found his groove here,” said head coach Tim Connelly. “He’s shown he can perform at a high level and help the team win.”
While Randle’s performance has improved, he remains cautious about embracing the harsh Minnesota winters. “I adjusted pretty fast, the only thing I have not adjusted to is the cold,” Randle said, though he added that his children are enjoying various winter activities.
The Timberwolves’ playoff performance will likely shape the front office’s decisions regarding Randle’s future. As they prepare for the postseason, Randle’s future in Minneapolis remains uncertain but appears brighter than it did earlier in the season.
