Justin Rose Golf Illness Truist Championship

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Justin Rose withdrew from the Truist Championship before scheduled play on Saturday, citing illness. The former professional golfer made the announcement on his social media account, expressing his intentions to recover ahead of next week’s PGA Championship.

Rose, 44, struggled in the opening rounds of the tournament, finishing with a 7-over par 77 on Friday amid rainy conditions. This performance placed him at the bottom of the leaderboard after 36 holes in the 72-man, no-cut event.

“After becoming progressively ill over the past few days, I have made the unfortunate decision to withdraw,” Rose said. “I am not in a state to complete, and it’s best for me to focus on a quick recovery prior to next week.”

Rose, an 11-time PGA Tour winner, noted his appreciation for the Philadelphia fans, stating, “Thanks to all the fans in Philly for the love this week. It’s a special place to me and I’m sorry it wasn’t a better week!”

Scheduled to tee off at 8:10 a.m. ET alongside fellow golfer Michael Kim, Rose’s withdrawal adds to the challenges both players are facing. Kim also withdrew during the third round due to a back injury, stating, “Back wasn’t great to start the week and aggravated it during the last two days.”

He explained that he would seek treatment to expedite his recovery. Kim is enjoying a strong season in which he has climbed from 155th to 53rd in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Rose, who recently finished as a runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Masters, now shifts his focus to the upcoming PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he hopes to achieve a strong performance despite his recent setback.
