Finnish goaltender Kaapo Kähkönen has been claimed off waivers by the Colorado Avalanche, marking a significant move in the NHL. Just days after being placed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets, Kähkönen found a new home with the Avalanche on October 11, 2024.

Kähkönen had signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets over the summer, but the contract did not include any clauses to protect him from being waived or traded. This move came as a surprise given his recent signing.

During his last stint with the Jets, Kähkönen played 19 games and maintained an impressive .920 save percentage. Despite this performance, the Jets decided to waive him, opening the door for the Avalanche to claim him.

The 28-year-old goaltender, born on August 16, 1996, brings experience and skill to the Avalanche, potentially strengthening their goaltending depth.
