Kamehameha-Maui and Baldwin Reach Semifinals in Baseball Championships

WAILUKU, Hawaii — The Maui Interscholastic League continued to showcase its talent at the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Division I State Baseball Championships on May 8, 2025. Kamehameha-Maui and Baldwin both secured spots in the semifinals after impressive victories.
Kamehameha-Maui initially fell behind 2-0 against Leilehua after the first inning. Leilehua scored two runs on five hits, but the Warriors quickly leveled the game with two of their own in the bottom of the frame. Four walks and two fielding errors aided Kamehameha-Maui in tying the game at 2.
The Warriors exploded in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on three hits, including a daring home steal by Bransyn Hong, which stretched their lead to 6-2. Notably, Kanoa Arakawa dominated on the mound, throwing for 5 2/3 innings after surrendering the early runs. Hong later came in for the final out, needing just one pitch to seal the victory.
Hong was also a star at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kamehameha-Maui will face Saint Louis in the 7 p.m. game on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Baldwin defeated Kamehameha, thanks to a stellar performance from pitcher Jayden Perry-Waikiki. He pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit in a 1-0 victory, needing only 89 pitches. The only run of the game came in the first inning, when Marley Sebastian scored on an error.
Kamehameha’s Greyson Osbun held his own against Perry-Waikiki, pitching six strong innings but ultimately was unable to secure the win. Logan Akaka delivered a notable performance for the Warriors, going 3-for-3 at the plate.
With the results, Baldwin will meet Waiakea in the first semifinal on Friday.
