Kane Williamson Makes History with Record-breaking 32nd Test Century Against South Africa
New Zealand‘s star cricketer, Kane Williamson, achieved a remarkable milestone on Day 4 of the second Test against South Africa at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Williamson notched up his 32nd Test century, making history as the fastest player to reach this feat in just 172 innings, surpassing the previous record holder, Steve Smith.
South Africa’s bowlers found it challenging to contain Williamson, who displayed exceptional composure and skill as he led New Zealand’s pursuit of 267 runs. The former captain’s century played a pivotal role in shifting the momentum back in New Zealand’s favor after a shaky start.
Williamson’s exceptional form in the ongoing series against South Africa has been evident with this being his third century in the last four innings. His consistent performance with the bat has posed a significant challenge to the Proteas‘ bowlers throughout the series.
With this century, Williamson has also set a new record for the most centuries scored in the fourth innings of a Test match, joining the likes of Younis Khan, Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, and Graeme Smith with five tons each.
The New Zealand cricketer’s achievement places him at the top spot for the most centuries in international cricket among active players, with 45 centuries to his name. His remarkable form and contribution to New Zealand cricket continue to solidify his status as one of the leading batters in the sport.
