Kansas City Current Vs Gotham Fc Soccer Match

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 5, 2025) — The Kansas City Current (8-0-2) will resume its National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) campaign this weekend with a match against Gotham FC (3-4-3) on June 7 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for noon CT.

The Current remain undefeated in their all-time series against Gotham FC, holding a record of 4-0-5 across all competitions. In their last three regular-season encounters, the teams have drawn, though Kansas City secured a victory in the NWSL x Liga MXF Summer Cup final in October 2024. Temwa Chawinga has been particularly effective against Gotham, scoring four goals in three matches against them.

In the current season, the Current has scored a total of 22 goals across ten matches, with 15 goals coming in the first half. They have scored first in 13 of their last 14 regular-season games dating back to October 2024. Kansas City’s plus-15 goal difference is a record after ten matches in NWSL history, underscoring their offensive power.

In addition, midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo is on the verge of making history. With 30 assists to her name, she needs one more to tie the NWSL regular-season record for assists, currently held by Lynn Biyendolo, Sophia Huerta, and Jess McDonald. DiBernardo also is poised to make her 200th career regular-season appearance this weekend.

Chawinga was recently named the NWSL Player of the Month for May, marking her second award this season. She recorded three goals in May and currently ranks second in the NWSL Golden Boot race. Chawinga has consistently been a game-winner for Kansas City, scoring the decisive goal in multiple matches.

Gotham FC, although sitting in ninth place, is coming off an important inaugural Concacaf Champions Cup victory. Despite struggling with injuries to key players, including U.S. national team defender Tierna Davidson, Gotham’s roster remains competitive. They remain determined to turn their season around against the top-ranked Current.

Both teams are looking to capitalize on their current form as the halfway point of the season approaches. Fans can catch the match nationally on CBS.
