Kansas Freshman Flory Bidunga to Enter Transfer Portal

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas freshman forward Flory Bidunga has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal, potentially marking a significant shift in the Jayhawks’ roster. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Bidunga will consider returning to Kansas but will also weigh his options in the transfer market.
Bidunga, who noted impressive stats in his inaugural college season with averages of 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, played a crucial role for the Jayhawks, participating in all 34 games and starting six. His contributions off the bench included 16.3 minutes of playing time per game, showcasing his potential as one of the standout freshman players.
Originally hailing from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bidunga moved to the United States for high school, where he made a name for himself at Kokomo High School. During his senior year, he earned recognition as Indiana Mr. Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American, further boosting his profile as a top recruit.
The 6-foot-10 Bidunga has been a fan favorite due to his athleticism and shot-blocking capabilities. During the season, he captured attention with pivotal plays, including a memorable coast-to-coast dunk following a block in a dominant victory against UCF in January. His performance peaked with a season-high of 19 points in a double-overtime contest against Houston on January 25.
Before choosing Kansas, Bidunga attracted interest from programs like Auburn, Duke, and Purdue. His commitment came in August 2023, following visits to several schools. As he navigates the transfer process, Bidunga’s decision will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike, as he emerges as one of the most desirable prospects in the portal this spring.
With Bidunga’s announcement, Kansas currently has eight scholarship players on its roster, as several key contributors are also set to leave the program, including Hunter Dickinson, Dajuan Harris Jr., and KJ Adams, among others.
