Karan Johar Ayan Mukerji National Film Awards 2023

Karan Johar, an acclaimed Indian film producer and director, recently took to social media to celebrate a significant milestone for his latest cinematic venture, “Brahmastra.” The film was honored with the National Film Award for Best Film in the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comic) category during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan.

Johar shared a series of photos from the event on Instagram, expressing his gratitude in a heartfelt note. He stated, “Every time I step onto this stage, it’s always a different feeling of magic. But there’s one feeling that always remains – gratitude.” He further thanked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (@mib_india) for their support towards the film industry.

One of the images features Johar alongside Ayan Mukerji, the film’s director, both visibly proud as they hold their prestigious awards. Johar’s post also commemorated 44 years of his production company, Dharma Productions, saying, “This is the third time for me on stage, and the magnanimity of it all is not lost on me. And what a day to celebrate – since today also marks 44 years of @dharmamovies!”

Ahead of the ceremony, Johar expressed his excitement to the news agency ANI, noting the global recognition Indian cinema is receiving. “We are very excited that ‘Brahmastra‘ is getting so many honours and awards. We are here to receive it very humbly. We are very proud. Indian cinema has a very big role on the global map of cinema,” he remarked.

‘Brahmastra,’ directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the first film of a planned trilogy set in the imagined ‘Astraverse.’ It features prominent actors like Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. The narrative revolves around the character Shiva, a DJ who discovers his unique connection to fire and the ability to awaken the powerful weapon, Brahmastra, which bears the potential to annihilate the universe.
