Karate Kid: Legends to Hit Theaters This May After Cobra Kai Finale

Los Angeles, CA – The eagerly awaited film Karate Kid: Legends will hit theaters this May, following the conclusion of the popular streaming series Cobra Kai. Initially set for a June 2024 release, the film’s premiere was delayed due to labor strikes in Hollywood.
The release date changed again from December 2024 to ensure it follows the final season of Cobra Kai, which wrapped up its run earlier this year on Netflix. The film features stars from the series, including Ralph Macchio, well-known for his role in the original Karate Kid, and action star Jackie Chan, who starred in the 2010 reboot.
The December 2024 date was previously claimed by Kraven the Hunter, a movie that struggled to compete during the busy holiday season, earning just over $25 million in domestic sales.
Industry analysts predict that Karate Kid: Legends could open with even higher earnings. It will face limited competition from Memorial Day weekend holdovers, such as The Last Rodeo and A24’s Friendship, with no significant family films releasing until mid-June.
Historically, following Memorial Day, many family-oriented films with nostalgic value have released, but many of these films lean heavily on animation or CGI. For example, The Garfield Movie and Peter Rabbit 2 have had lower domestic openings compared to projections.
With anticipation building, Karate Kid: Legends seems poised to capture audience attention in a currently sparse marketplace for family movies.
