Kayshon Boutte, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, has made significant strides in securing his position on the team this season. After starting the season on the depth chart, Boutte has quickly become a pivotal player among the team’s receivers.

Head coach Jerod Mayo recently acknowledged Boutte as one of the Patriots’ top three wide receivers. This was evident in a recent game against the Houston Texans, where the 22-year-old tied his career-high with 55 offensive snaps — more than any other New England receiver — and recorded three receptions for 59 yards, including his first career touchdown.

“He’s a guy that we were not, I wouldn’t say down on, but we didn’t see him as a starter early through camp,” offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt stated on Thursday. “He approached practice with a commendable work ethic, not just contributing to us, but also performing well on the scout team. His attitude was exceptional. He earned his right to be on the field. I’m proud of his perseverance.”

Boutte’s efforts on the practice field, including earning a practice player of the week honor after the first game, catalyzed his increased role. Despite not being part of the season opener and being a healthy inactive for Week 2, Boutte remained focused and impressed coaches both in practice and in meetings.

“He took an energy shift,” fellow wide receiver Kendrick Bourne remarked. “He was determined to be on the field this year. He’s locked in and knows the playbook very well.” DeMario Douglas, another teammate, acknowledged Boutte’s transformation, noting, “His work ethic and character have changed; it shows on the field.”

Once a five-star recruit and a projected top NFL Draft pick, Boutte fell to the sixth round following injuries and other off-field challenges during his tenure at LSU. However, his talent has never been in question, and it now shines as he solidifies his role with the Patriots. “His route-running ability and knack for separating in man coverage are impressive,” Van Pelt noted, adding that Boutte’s deep play capability was on display in recent games. “His ball skills are outstanding; he catches cleanly and creates separation at the top of his routes.”
