PARIS, France — Round one of the French Open continues on Monday with an intriguing match between Sebastian Baez and Miomir Kecmanovic. The match kicks off in the afternoon as both players seek a strong start to their campaigns at this prestigious tournament.

Baez and Kecmanovic are set to meet for the third time, with Kecmanovic holding a 2-0 advantage from their earlier encounters in 2024. The Serbian player, currently ranked 46th, won both previous matches with scores of 6-3, 6-2 at Eastbourne and 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-5 at the Paris Indoors. Kecmanovic aims for a ‘surface sweep’ when they clash again on the red clay of Roland Garros.

Despite the clay surface favoring Baez, the 38th-ranked Argentine has struggled recently, posting a disappointing 1-6 record in his last seven matches. Kecmanovic, while not in peak form either, reached the semifinals of a competitive Challenger tournament in Estoril, potentially giving him the edge in confidence.

In another first-round match, 10th-ranked Holger Rune begins his French Open journey against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut. Rune’s season has been characterized by an up-and-down performance, but he comes off a title win in Barcelona. He has won both previous encounters against Bautista Agut, with scores of 7-6(1), 7-6(6) in Basel in 2022 and 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 last summer in Montreal.

Bautista Agut ranked 49th at 37 years old, has shown signs of slowing down with a 7-13 record in 2025. His game is typically more effective on faster surfaces, making it unlikely he will pose a significant threat to Rune in this matchup.

The outcome of both matches promises to set the stage for the remainder of the tournament, with Kecmanovic being favored in his match against Baez and Rune expected to emerge victorious against Bautista Agut.
