Kellen Moore New Orleans Saints Head Coach Announcement

NEW ORLEANS — Kellen Moore is set to become the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints following a successful season as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he recently won a Super Bowl. NFL Network insiders reported the agreement is being finalized ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

At 36, Moore will be the youngest head coach in Saints history. He was previously with the Dallas Cowboys, serving as their offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022, and held the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles. Moore’s arrival aims to revitalize a Saints team that has struggled, finishing the 2024 season with a 5-12 record.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed the hiring, notifying other candidates of Moore’s appointment. Loomis said in a brief statement, “Kellen brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to our team. We are excited for what lies ahead.” Moore’s offensive strategies have consistently placed his teams among the best in the league, with the Eagles ranking eighth in total offense this past season.

Moore’s coaching career began immediately after his playing days as a quarterback at Boise State. He joined the Cowboys as a quarterbacks coach in 2018 and quickly ascended to offensive coordinator. His success with the Cowboys earned him opportunities with the Chargers and Eagles, where he led a potent offense that excelled in both passing and rushing plays.

His hiring follows the departure of Dennis Allen, who was let go during the previous season, leaving the team under the interim leadership of special teams coach Darren Rizzi. Moore’s appointment marks a strategic pivot for the Saints as they seek to rebuild and re-establish competitiveness in the NFC South.

In comments to the media, Moore expressed enthusiasm about his new role: “I have a deep respect for the New Orleans Saints organization and the rich history it holds. I’m looking forward to building a championship team here and collaborating with a talented roster.”

This head coach search included various candidates before settling on Moore, securing a leader with a recent track record of offensive success. The Saints are optimistic he will bring creativity and energy to the team’s playstyle.

As Moore prepares to take command of the Saints, he will also focus on assembling his coaching staff, indicating potential hires who have worked alongside him in previous roles. His immediate task will be to leverage the upcoming draft and free agency to reshape the team’s roster to fit his offensive philosophy.
