Luke Kennard Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Luke Kennard will start for the Memphis Grizzlies in Thursday’s game against the Houston Rockets, filling in for the absent Ja Morant, according to Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle. This marks Kennard’s third start of the season, as the team continues to adjust its lineup in Morant’s absence.

Kennard has been a reliable contributor in his previous starts, averaging 22.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. His performance has been crucial as the Grizzlies navigate Morant’s unavailability, with Desmond Bane also stepping up to handle increased playmaking responsibilities.

However, Kennard’s role remains fluid. On January 25, he was moved back to the bench when Morant returned from illness for a game against the Utah Jazz. In his last start prior to that, Kennard delivered an impressive 27 points, six assists, three rebounds, and one steal in a 139-126 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Grizzlies’ coaching staff has yet to confirm how long Morant will be sidelined, leaving Kennard’s starting status uncertain beyond Thursday’s matchup. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Kennard can maintain his recent form and help the team secure a crucial win against the Rockets.
