Travis Perry Kentucky Basketball Transfer Portal

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) – Freshman guard Travis Perry has officially entered the transfer portal after one season with the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

With hours remaining until the college basketball transfer portal closed, Perry, a native of Lyon County, made the unexpected announcement late Tuesday night, reported by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello via X, formerly known as Twitter.

During his freshman year, the 6-foot-1 guard played 31 games, starting four of them. He averaged 2.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 9.8 minutes per game, shooting 31.3% overall and 32.1% from three-point range.

Perry was a celebrated prep star, breaking the KHSAA scoring record in his junior year and leading Lyon County to a Sweet 16 championship. He capped his high school career with over 5,000 points and was named Mr. Kentucky Basketball.

Due to injuries in the backcourt, Perry often found himself in significant playing time, including during the SEC Tournament quarterfinals against Alabama where he scored 11 points in 30 minutes. However, despite his talent, uncertainty lingered about his future role under head coach John Calipari.

Before joining Kentucky, Perry had a range of options including Alabama, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Purdue, and Western Kentucky but ultimately decided to play for the Wildcats. This decision seemed to align with the fans’ hopes for his development.

Following the addition of Florida transfer Denzel Aberdeen, Perry’s departure may lead Kentucky to seek additional recruits to fill its roster ahead of the 2025-26 season. His decision to transfer indicates a desire for more playing time elsewhere, potentially at a mid-major school.

As Perry moves on from Kentucky, fans hope he finds a situation that allows him to thrive. This shift comes amid other departures, including walk-on players entering the transfer portal, marking a significant transition for the Wildcats.
