Kentucky Indiana Snowstorm Weather Alerts

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Residents in Kentucky and Indiana are preparing for another round of snow showers expected to impact the region this evening. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm advisories for various areas, highlighting the potential for minor accumulations and hazardous travel conditions.

The snowfall is projected to begin around 8:00 PM EST and continue into the overnight hours, with forecasters indicating light snow accumulation between a dusting and an inch, and isolated areas possibly seeing up to 1.5 inches, particularly in locations that have already received significant snow earlier this week.

This follows prior snowfall that left many areas, especially south of the metro, with totals exceeding three inches. According to meteorologists, the upcoming weather pattern is influenced by a system building from the Plains, which will bring scattered snow across the region.

“Tonight’s snow will be fluffy and light,” said a local meteorologist. “We expect to clear up by Thursday late morning, but residents should be cautious of the road conditions this evening.”

The current temperature in downtown Louisville is 18 degrees, feeling much colder at five degrees due to a northeast wind of 13 mph. Afternoon highs are forecasted to reach only into the mid-20s, intensifying the cold feel as temperatures drop overnight.

Projected low temperatures for Thursday morning are around 13 degrees, which, combined with the newly fallen snow, could create slick roadways. The forecast radar shows additional snow bands developing to the west, which will traverse the area through late evening.

Thursday is expected to be partly sunny but remains cold, with lows dipping into the single digits expected on Friday. Highs could occasionally rise to the lower 30s, but significant cold air remains prevalent across the northern Plains.

In response to the impending weather, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) have announced that Wednesday will be an NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) day for students, meaning no in-person classes will be held. All extracurricular activities have been canceled. Similarly, Jefferson County Catholic schools will also be closed on Wednesday.
